Bad Canon service in Poland. How is it in your country?
I've thought the story is worth sharing. There is only one authorized Canon service center in Poland and lucky one who doesn't have to deal with them. Poland may be a small and insignificant market for Canon but there is still a lot of Canon DSLR users who would like to get a good quality service for their equipment. We have heard a lot from pleased users dealing with Canon service centers in New Jersey or California. I've just wondered how it looks in other countries - i.e. smaller markets than U.S., Japan, or Germany?
Here are some things my Polish friends heard from "experienced" service staff in Polish service center:
- "it's a studio DSLR, you don't need a precise AF there" (about a common problem with FF/BF)
- "this is how it goes when you buy a shitty camera" (about customer's 20D. now you now what you paid for - $1500 for a "shitty" camera)
- "European warranty is not valid in Poland or Germany" (oh yeah? so where these countries are? in Africa?)
- "to fix FF/BF we have to make corrections for all your lenses" (which may be true if all lenses have defect, but they work perfect with another body, and that body works perfect with other lenses. and we're talking about 4 L lenses, not the cheapest glass)
- "it doesn't matter. if you print 4x6" you wouldn't notice that" (again related to the FF/BF problem. and i thought that we buy 6-12 mpx cameras to print larger pictures than 4x6")
- "you should sharpen it in Photoshop" (about significant focusing problems. stupidest advice ever)
BTW, Polish users have positive experience with service centers in Germany, Switzerland, and different countries so it seems that only our technicians are lazy...
