Problem: There is something wrong, but the camera either doesn't know what it is, or is not telling you. This is a catch-all response when the fault does not fall into one of the other categories.
Solution: Turn the camera off, then remove the lens, battery and CF card. Leave the camera to sit for a few minutes. In the meantime, use a soft, dry cloth to polish the gold contacts at the rear of the lens and just inside the camera lens mount. Then replace the lens, CF card, and turn the camera on. If you still see 'Err99', repeat the above procedure, but leave the camera alone for about 20 minutes. It might also help if the camera is fully charged before you put it back into the camera. Try using a different CF card and different lens to see if you can isolate where the problem is coming from. If none of the above helps your camera may need a trip to a Canon Service Centre.
